RECENTLY

1. Yesterday I hosted a citizenship forum in Hurstville with Shadow Minister for Multicultural Australia and Citizenship Tony Burke MP.

The Turnbull Government’s new citizenship laws are unfair and will hinder many people who live here permanently from ever becoming citizens. Please sign the petition against these unfair changes here.

2. On Friday I hosted a public forum in Hornsby on housing affordability with Shadow Minister for Housing Senator Doug Cameron.

Housing is more than an investment opportunity - it's a human right.

3. Earlier this week I participated in a roundtable on the future of food manufacturing in Western Sydney at the Arnott’s Huntingwood Factory.

Factories like this matter enormously to the 30,000 Australians employed in the food manufacturing sector.

OUR TEAM

Last weekend Labor leader Bill Shorten MP announced Labor’s plan to build a fairer tax system. Right now, a childcare worker on $50,000 per annum could be required to pay more tax than someone who earns $1,000,000. Tax loopholes exist that benefit a wealthy 2% of Australians. This is fundamentally unfair. Labor will end this unequal two-class tax system.

IN DEPTH

I spoke at the NSW Labor annual conference about the need to tackle rising wealth inequality. Wealth inequality in Australia is currently at a 75 year high. Our public service should have a laser-like focus on this issue. This is why I recently introduced a Private Senators Bill to require the Productivity Commission to report on wealth inequality in Australia.

I also spoke to the conference about the need to support ambitious targets to close the gender pay gap. The women of Australia cannot wait another fifty years for equality.

In Labor,
