ANOTHER BROKEN PROMISE: STILL NO DETAILS ABOUT DOMESTIC VIOLENCE HOUSING
 

One month ago, Luke Howarth Assistant Minister for Housing and Homelessness promised to announce which organisations will get funding from the Safe Places Emergency Accommodation Program “definitely within the next month”.
 
Not a single announcement has been made since. Just crickets.
 
Women and children suffering domestic violence desperately need this help and the constant delays from this Government are unacceptable.
 
Family violence was a national crisis before the pandemic. Lockdowns and self-isolation have only exacerbated it.
 
The Assistant Minister has broken his promise, and he can’t put a “positive spin” on this one.
 
The funding was announced in February last year and, 19 months later, the Morrison Government is yet to confirm which organisations have received the grants.
 
Hurry up. These projects could be under construction now.
 
Last month, Labor called on the Morrison Government to release the details of the $78 million grants program to expand emergency accommodation for women and children experiencing family violence.

The Government’s own guidelines state applicants would start to see “grant activity around July 2020”.
 
They have missed their own deadline over and over again.
 
Now is the time to help put a roof over the heads of women and children escaping domestic violence and invest in infrastructure which will create more work for tradies.
