JENNY MCALLISTER
SHADOW ASSISTANT MINISTER FOR FAMILIES AND COMMUNITIES
SENATOR FOR NSW
APPOINTMENT AS SHADOW ASSISTANT MINISTER FOR FAMILIES AND COMMUNITIES
It’s an honour to be appointed as the Shadow Assistant Minister for Families and Communities. I am excited to be taking up Labor’s fight in this portfolio with my friend and colleague Linda Burney. I thank Bill Shorten for this opportunity.
This portfolio plays such a crucial role in tackling inequality and social disadvantage. It is an area of government policy that directly impacts the lives of almost every Australian. A mark of society is how it treats its most vulnerable.
Labor has always fought to establish the social infrastructure that protects our most vulnerable, and builds and strengthens our communities. It is a legacy I will work to defend and build on.
I look forward to working with my portfolio colleagues Linda Burney, Doug Cameron, Ed Husic and Carol Brown to further our work with all of the not-for profit and community organisations, staff and volunteers that deliver important services for many vulnerable Australians.
I would like to acknowledge the terrific work that Senator Louise Pratt has done in this portfolio. She has been a strong and passionate advocate for vulnerable Australians and a strong and vibrant community sector.
