SHORTEN & MCALLISTER - MEDIA RELEASE - 1200 MORE PWD TO RECEIVE FAM VIOLENCE SUPPORT - TUES 12TH APRIL 2022
1200 MORE PEOPLE WITH DISABILITY TO HAVE FAMILY VIOLENCE SUPPORT UNDER LABOR’S PLAN
An Albanese Labor Government will provide dedicated funding to organisations that support people with disability to employ specialist domestic and family violence workers.
Women with disability are far more likely to suffer domestic and sexual abuse than non-disabled women. Despite this, many frontline family and domestic violence services are physically inaccessible or don't have enough funding or support to accept women with complex care needs.
This commitment will ensure that women with disability are not excluded from receiving appropriate and tailored support.

E&OE TRANSCRIPT DOORSTOP INTERVIEW, GOLD COAST - WEDNESDAY, 23 MARCH 2022
SUBJECTS: Domestic and family violence, 500 additional community sector workers, crisis accommodation for women and children fleeing violence
"Domestic violence is at epidemic levels. We've heard this morning from Rosie and her team about the increase in demand on her service just in the last few months. They are picking up an additional 100 women per week, needing their service. It is an enormous load, and it speaks to the scale and extent of the tragedy. Labor understands that if we form a government, we will need to lead on this."

BURNEY, MCALLISTER, LEIGH & TEMPLEMAN MEDIA RELEASE - RESTORING RESPECT FOR THE COMMUNITY SECTOR - TUESDAY, 15 MARCH 2022
An Albanese Labor Government will support a stronger, more diverse and more independent community sector.
Through floods, fires and a pandemic, the community sector has stepped up to provide support to struggling Australians.
Despite this, the Morrison Government has repeatedly tried to devalue and silence community sector voices. At the same time, many community sector organisations have been working with less money, less funding certainty and increased stress.
If elected, Labor will change this.
