Straight from the Senate - Issue 41

4.54pm | August 17, 2018

Here's a quick wrap up of the past week in the Senate -

1. This week the Senate primarily debated assisted dying. I spoke and voted in favour because I firmly believe that we all have the right to die with dignity. You can read my remarks here. Sadly the legislation did not pass the Senate.

2. Senator Fraser Anning delivered an appalling, racist and hateful first speech. In response, many Senators came together to reaffirm our commitment to multiculturalism, diversity and acceptance. Racism has no place in our Parliament or in our community.

3. I spoke in the Senate about the devastating drought our farmers are experiencing and the need to act on climate change to prevent extreme weather from becoming even more common. You can watch my speech here.
